Ramblings, discounts and Question - need your input!

Good morning everyone!

Well, as per usual I took the weekend off from blogging. Getting ready for Christmas and all (since we're in the poor house I'm making as many gifts as I can) and since it's my first time making a few of these items, I've had to start over on a couple hehe. But that's why I love crochet! Easy to take apart, and since it doesn't take me that long to crochet, it's not so upsetting when I do have to take it apart.

I'd love to post pics of what I'm doing, but alas, then people will see what they're getting for Christmas! I will post them right after Christmas though, very exciting! One thing is giving me problems though. Has anyone ever used the invisible thread??? I thought it would be a good idea, but it's SO hard to work with! (Not on sewing machine... I really need to get supplies so I can sew soon, I have all these ideas for things to make, but alas, no fabric, no needles, no thread.. oy!)

In an update about the magazine article, it's been submitted and the magazine is at the printers! I should have a copy soon and I'm very excited about it. It's a new Canadian magazine for young girls, and they needed a crafting section. And it's actually called "Kat's Craft Corner"!! I'll post pics as soon as it's out. Again, very exciting!!

In other news, took Kermit to see Santa yesterday HA! Oh ya, hilarious. I'll post his Christmas pic one day, although he's going on our Christmas cards, and again, don't want to spoil the surprise yet :)

At the end of last week I was feverishly making cards to list, and I successfully did so. (Finally!!). I have one set up there that is completely customizable. It's the set of 7 - one of each of my cards. Now I realize that not everyone wants to send out a "Merry Kiss My Ass" or a "Let it Blow", so obviously you can choose whichever images you want. Plus, you can choose the main colours of the background paper (to be all green, all red, or a mix of a few colours, what have you) Since Christmas paper is currently in short supply, I can't guarentee that I can use the *exact* same paper for every card, but I can atleast do the same main colour. (But if you get your orders in quick, I can do it!) You also have a choice of white or ivory cardstock. If you want to *really* customize, I can do the red or green cardstock in a large size card, but that will be a little extra. As for quantity - you're not set at 7 :) You can do any quantity and I'll do a custom listing for you. The more you buy, the less you pay per card. Plus, in some of the card listings, I've done a stamp on the inside of the card saying "Merry Christmas". This can be added to your cards if you like as well (for a very small fee.)

And as a friendly reminder, if you previously entered my card giveaway, and didn't win (or if you did win and wanted more - don't want to exclude you MiMi's Babies!!) you get 10% off of your card order. AND if you're a facebook fan, you automatically get 10% off anything from either of my shops. SO... If you're a facebook fan, AND didn't win my giveaway, you get 20% off your card order!! How great is that?!

Man, I should just be waking up right now lol. Hubby hadda work at 4am today, so it was outta bed before 3am. Good times kids, good times. Although I'm surprisingly awake right now.

Okay, I have a question for all of you! I posted this question on the forums, but as per usual, no one is answering me LOL.

My question is... I've gotten a couple of orders for my cards back in October and beginning of November. But now that it's getting closer to December, should I put a date on the announcement when cards should be ordered by? I want my customers to be able to have time to mail them out, but with shipping being kinda slow into the states, I'm worried that people won't order them in time. So, do I put a date of when they should be ordered by? I don't want to "Guarentee" anything - shipping's not reliable enough for that and I don't want to get burned. But I don't want to automatically raise the price of shipping to cover express post, because that's really expensive! Should I just leave that up to the customer, and let them figure it out? lol. As a seller of Christmas cards, or even a buyer of Christmas cards, what would you suggest??? I don't want to sound "pushy" in my announcement, but then again, I don't wanna get bad feedback from those non-understanding buyers who think it's up to ME to get them their cards in time, y'know??

Okay, off I go. Gonna see if anyone answered me yet in the forums *snort*. Ya right!

Have a great day everyone!

Well, it's still not fixed!

(This is my cat Misha givin' me a bit of "poo face"this morning.)

Can't get the freakin' banner up there! Was even talkin' with my good friend Tanya from Flauxers who's an expert in HTML. I did everything she had suggested, but to no avail. Although that's *probably* because I wasn't following exact instructions because I'm bad that way. (Just ask my mom)

Although I couldn't spend as much time with her as I would have liked, due to the fact that I started talking with her just before 10pm, and I hadda be up at 430am! Not a good mix.

So hopefully later on today maybe, if she has a chance, we can take another shot at it! But hey, if it doesn't work, that's okay I suppose! It was just a big ass daisy. I just liked it is all. Poo. Wasn't it pretty???

As for other things on the go, I finished another card last night! Joyeux Noel. Sounds nice and pretty. HA! Well, atleast this one's not rude (actually, it's the only card of mine that my Mom likes...) Anyhoo, scanned that in last night, printed them out, now I just gotta make 'em! Which I will do after I start making chili! Mmmm.. chili.. It's the perfect meal for a diabetic lemme tell ya! (and I *can* tell you because I *am* diabetic!) And I figured, get the meal outta the way now so the hubby can't complain that he's starving as soon as he gets home from work, but isn't patient enough to wait until I cook something, so he starts cooking something and then I feel bad because I'm the one home all day and he's the one working his ass off and.. Okay that's long enough. :)

Okay so, game plan - Make Chili. -Make cards and take pictures of them. -List cards. And at some point, take the dog for a poo. (Hadn't mentioned 'poo' in a while, thought it was due. Hey, did I ever mention that one day I searched as to how people are finding my blog, one person searched for "how to get a dog poo stain out of a silk shirt" and got my blog?! I laughed and I laughed... Well hey, it's exposure. Hmm.. what *else* can I talk about that will get people viewing my blog?!)

Have a freakin' great Monday kids!!!

Oookay, don't get it!

So, I actually figured out how to change my blog to 3 columns! Very excited! So I'm going along, and adding back in my widgets, and fiddling with the HTML as to the width of the columns, and the margins and %'s and all that good stuff, BUT, my frigging header won't change! So it's still the green background and plain "sassmowthdesigns Adventures in Crafting Land" but i can't put a friggin picture in there! I've tried editing the HTML with the header - and nothing is working. I've searched and searched for everything on the web about adding a header - and i've tried it all. But to no avail. There was even a suggestion to add in the HTML of the picture (that's been uploaded to say, photobucket) but that doesn't work either. So any of you tech savvies out there, what can I do?! lol

In other news, I made 3 more sets of cards, and they're NEW ones this time. (Still working on like, 5 other designs! yeesh) But here's my new creation.. Whaddya think? HA!

Alright so, 3 column blog look okay?? Hope so.. of course twitter isn't working so I can't put my twitter thing on there, and I still have to add back all the other widgets (facebook, fresh picked, things like that) but atleast I was smart enough to write them all down. *GASP* I know! That's not usually something *I* would think of. Who writes things down? Pffft not I! I guess I learned my lesson from not writing down what I was crocheting, and then having to make a second one and being completely clueless.

Alright kids, I'm off to fiddle some more with ze blog. But yes, anyone out there who can help with the html to put my pic back in the header?! Would be *greatly* appreciated!

And the custom order is done and shipped!

I'm very excited! I've had a lot of projects on the go, a busy holiday weekend (which included my 1st year anniversary!) and on top of it all, I've been horribly sick. Well, not *too* horribly, but any sick is a kick in the ass. I took pictures through the entire process of making these cards, so I thought I'd add them in!

It woulda been cool to get pics of *me* working on them, but a) I'm not Wonderwoman, and b) the dog takes terrible pictures.

This was my first time attempting to cut and score my own cards! I was sick of spending way too much money on pre-scored cardstock with envelopes, so I found myself a *great* company that not only supplies me with cardstock and matching envelopes (for EVERY colour cardstock! woot!) but also packaging supplies, so i feel so professional now! I have clear bags that fit my cards perfectly, and it looks like it came from a store! They also have shipping supplies, and with even more good news - express shipping so it only takes 1-2 days to receive my stuff! No worrying about running out and having to go to every single paper supply store in Burlington/Hamilton and beyond only to come home empty handed to cry.

So, I thought making 4 cards at a time was a lot of work lol. This is a lot more taxing, but I bet it wouldn't be if it was something i did on a more regular basis!

I thought I'd be cute and put a snowman stamp on each envelope. Yeah me!

Even added some pretty Christmas-sy ribbon

And look! See, it's professional! Weeee! Very happy with the results, but I just hope the customer is just as pleased!

Oh okay, so now that I'm done with the show and tell, I have some news for everyone out there who's been frustrated by slow shipping from Canada to U.S. (or overseas to U.S.) I talked to the post office, and basically what's happening is the security of packages going into the States has been upped - so each package is being individually scanned to see what's inside. Which is creating a HUGE backlog to shipping times. So for all the buyers out there, PLEASE be patient! And get your Christmas stuff early! Who knows how much of a crap shoot it'll be next month trying to send everything out. Even express post is taking a lot longer then the guaranteed time. So one good thing for sellers out there, is keep your receipts! If you sent something out express, and it didn't get there on or before the guaranteed date, you get your money back!

Alright folks, already gotta run. It's DINNER time. And then I have a bunch more cards to do! (and on a side note - I would have written this blog a lot sooner, but the internet was down ALL FREAKIN' DAY. Well, until my husband got home and reset the things i don't know how to reset.)

Have a good night everyone! I'll be back tomorrow with my Feature Friday!

Just a realy quickie!

Touching base to say I'm still around, but it's Thanksgiving weekend and there's tons of family obligations! Can't even start on my custom order yet... Dang! So excited that I got one, but can't work on it. Poo.

Hopefully I'll be able to post something worthwhile this weekend, and oh, you may have noticed that there was no "Friday Night Deals" post! Well, a bunch of people said they'd post the info on my blog, but none of them did! :( And I've been very sick this past week, so i was too tired to go searching for deals, so i do apologize! Hopefully people start posting their deals before Friday, so I'll have a lot to choose from!

Okay, off i go.

Have a great long weekend everyone!

Pooholes and cards and all that jazz

I thought I'd just write a short little blog to let you all know I'm still here! Been super busy colouring my ass off, and driving myself crazy by brainstorming for a new shop name...

The colouring my ass off (wish that really worked.. huh) is for my new line of Christmas cards, which I'd like to add in sneak peeks here. These aren't all of them, but they're the ones I'm currently working on. These are just the first draft line drawings, and of course, just little peeks. And I'm not even going to explain what any of them are! HA!

Okay so, I'm seeing a theme here. Huh. Bum holes and screaming. Wow, my Christmas cards are festive aren't they?!

As for brainstorming for a new shop name, I'm gonna take the lazy route and just paste in a little excerpt from my other blog "That's gonna leave a stain" where i discussed my dilemmas just last night!

In etsy news, still desperately trying to think of a shop name for my photography. I desperately want to split the shops, but figuring out a name is driving me crazy. I want something original. I want something professional. I want something humourous. And all those things combined makes it extremely difficult. When i type in "sassmowth" into google, ALL i get is my stuff. Of course it does the "did you mean sassmoUth" and i say loudly everytime "NOOOooooOOO i did NOT mean sassmoooouuuuuuuth! Thank you very much!" Great thing about using a different spelling means you have a better chance of finding your stuff. BUT a different spelling also means people will forever be spelling your shop name the *correct* way, and never finding you. (Do you know how many emails i haven't gotten because of this?!) So that's why I'm not naming my shop SassmowthPhotography. Things that I have come up with so far: Crosseyed Photography, PoorHouse Photography, (and thanks to my daddoo) Wandering Eye photography. (just so we're all clear - i *have* a wandering eye. And I'm poor. So that's the reason for these names being the first to mind!) But, can you believe wandering eye photography is already a photography shop? geez. So is crosseyed AND poor house. I've been trying to find tweaks on photo related words (EyesWideShutter - already taken! ShutterYourMouth - already taken! I think i should give up on "shutter") But to no avail. Then i read an interesting forum on etsy about how people came up with their shop name. I'm like ooh hey, maybe I'll get some ideas of what i can use. So a lot of people were talking about using their name "meaning" for their shop. So i was like, cool, I'll type in my name for the "meaning" and i got "VIRGINAL". There we go. That'll do. Yup. Sounds great.

Does sound great doesn't it? I certainly thought so. Oh, got all the info I need for my upcoming Feature Friday! So excited for starting this... and i already have the second installment underway. Hopefully it'll be a success!

Okay, before i run off, there's one more thing. The other day on the chats, Ponder&Stitch and I happened to be talking about pictures of ourselves, and she was saying there's one in particular that she hated 'cause she looked bad, and I kept saying 'puh! do NOT'. Well then i brought up Weird Al. Basically it was along the lines of me saying atleast you weren't a spitting image of Weird Al, and all i really had to do was draw on a moustache! So, here ya go Amy, see for yourself m'dear! Enjoy!

Okay so I also drew on the chesthair! Just so you all know! :)
